National Treasures & Ken Burns |
National Parks: Antidote to Propaganda, ‘Government is the Enemy'
BeyondChron
"Not once in Ken Burns’ masterful documentary on America’s National Parks does he overplay his most abiding lesson: good government is the heroic engine by which we save special places, ourselves, our nation, and our planet. Methodical and meditative, Burns dramatizes monumental themes by telling stories that start small, one visionary or scattered cluster who find the human and the sacred in the natural – redefining significance for all in the process."
America Needs More 'Crown Jewels'
LA Times
"The 270,000-acre Tejon Ranch, between Los Angeles and Bakersfield in the Tehachapis, features extraordinary ecological resources: ancient oak groves, Joshua tree and pinyon pine forests, and 80 imperiled species, including the California condor. Its owners and some environmentalists have cut a deal to put 90% of the ranchland into a private conservancy in exchange for allowing intense development on the other 10%. But here's what hasn't been seriously considered: Protecting this precious area as a national park for the benefit of creatures and people in one of the nation's most densely populated regions."
Yosemite Indians, Where Did They Go?
"If you have been watching the series on PBS by Ken Burns called 'The National Parks, Americas Best Idea' you will see Yosemite Valley featured several times. Yosemite was one of the first national parks created in the United States so everyone could share in its beauty, but have you ever wondered what happened to the original Indians of Yosemite?"
