Join us Sunday, July 12th at Mission Pool, on 19th at Linda between Guerrero and Valencia 10 a.m to 2 p.m.
Amber will be there with information on how to build sidewalk gardens with the long-range goal of building an urban earth artwork of contiguous bird, butterfly and bee-attracting sidewalk gardens planted with native and other drought-tolerant plants. Eventually, these gardens will run from Dolores Park (19th & Dolores) to Franklin Square Park (16th & Bryant) connecting Mission District parks, back yards and existing sidewalk gardens.
Dylan Hayes (SFRPD Natural Areas Program) will be there to amuse and teach ...
We have a bit of weeding to do to make space for the plants that went in last May. The manzanita, Ceanothus, California fuschia, sticky monkey flower, Phacelia, pink flowering currant and blue-eyed grass have grown in with regular Rec & Park watering and care, but the grass is encroaching and the metal fence needs attention.

Park staff is amazed at the excellent survival rate of the plants you all worked so hard to plant. Joe has seen people with sleeping bags heading for the lake's edge and actually backing out when they saw that it was planted!"
