Partnerships

Nature in the City brings people and nature together.

We partner with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, and local businesses to implement environmental programs and build strong networks that expand our reach citywide.

Climate Career Corps

Nature in the City and Enterprise for Youth kicked off year two of the Climate Career Corps (CCC) program in June 2023! Two hundred and eighty young people (ages 14- 22) joined nonprofits and companies for a season of learning and exploring future environmental career paths throughout the Bay Area. The Climate Career Corps develops the careers of young people and supports the City’s Climate Action Plan; the Plan provides a pathway for San Francisco to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions while advancing racial and social equity.

The program helps our youth can learn about the City’s biodiversity goals, and how they can be effective changemakers as we transition to a just and green economy. Youth complete Enterprise for Youth’s job-readiness training program and receive environmental education through Nature in the City before their internship placements. They are paid the nonprofit rate for City contractors ($17.34/hour). Primarily from underserved communities disproportionately affected by environmental injustice and, increasingly, climate change, they are low-income, first-generation college-bound students, recent immigrants, and youth of color.

Funding for the CCC is made possible by grants from Deloitte and Salesforce and individuals like you.

Climate Action Now!

In 2021, we partnered with Climate Action Now! to restore habitat and improve volunteer participation along Sunset Boulevard.

Sunset Nature Advocacy Partnership (SNAP)

Nature in the City, Garden for the Environment, and Sutro Stewards unite to advance local climate change solutions. Thanks to SHARP’s generous funding, the Sunset Nature Advocacy Partnership hosted free public environmental education events and walks in 2022-2023. Learn more here.

Atlassian

In 2021 we worked with Atlassian's teams on a global summer solstice 2021 educational event: "Save our pollinators one planter at a time," during which we shared solutions with employees in the Bay Area, around the US, Australia, Netherlands, Japan, India, and the Philippines. Employees also planted with us at Palou Phelps Park. Collaborations took place again in 2023, and more are planned for summer 2024.

Government agencies

Government agencies are essential partners to Nature in the City and often provide funds and resources that sustain our work and help us advocate for local and national movements.

Organizations

Nature in the City partners with a wide range of nonprofit and community organizations that work with us to provide new viewpoints, reach diverse audiences, collaborate on projects, and build coalitions to advance our shared missions.

Local Businesses

Nature in the City's local business partners provide direct financial support and in-kind resources. They also supply us with large groups of volunteers for workdays, promote our work, and help us reach new audiences.

Institutions

Academic institutions partner with Nature in the City to provide students with opportunities to apply their learning to real projects happening in communities. Institutions also work with us to provide internships that develop career skills and enhance professional relationships.
